Brussels gives green light to Sofia waste treatment plant

Following four years of waiting, the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, placed his signature on December 19 under the project for the second phase for the construction of a waste treatment plant in Sofia.

All services of the European Commission have endorsed the waste treatment plant. This implies that in two years at the latest close to two million Sofia residents will have a fully integrated system for the treatment of waste, Environmental Minister Nona Karadjova said. The value of the integrated project is 180m euros. This includes 128m euros in gratuitous financing from the European Union, and the rest is a loan plus own financing.
