Online lost and found objects system launches in Romania

An online lost and found office, which is already active in four other European states, was also recently launched in Romania. Romanians will be able to recover their lost objects with the use of this new online service, provided the objects have a special marking on them which makes them traceable in an international database.

The website http://ro.bringmeback.eu is based on a system which includes personal items with individual codes in an online database. When the object is lost, the founder will type down the code into the site and offer a reward for its return.

Markers that can be stuck on objects cost RON 5 and can be bought on the site www.birouldeobiectepierdute.ro. The system is in Romanian but users can switch to English too. Markers can be applied on electronic gadgets, keys, luggage, wallets, Ids, watches, jewelry, and even pets. Romanian can use key chains, labels or stickers to place the markers on their objects, according to Gabriel Oprea, project manager. Markers need to be re-activated every year, at no extra cost. The system is already functional in Germany, its home market, Switzerland, Austria and Italy, where the return rate of lost objects is 90 percent.

European data shows that every 35 seconds, somebody loses their car or house keys, every 35 minutes somebody loses their laptop, and every 15 seconds a piece of luggage is lost.
