Art worth EUR 0.6 mln goes to 300 bidders in Bucharest

Romanian auction house Artmark sold EUR 600,000 worth of works of art at the six auctions it held last week. During three consecutive evenings, the auction house welcomed over 600 bidders and sold 80 percent of the lots. Over 300 bidders ended up buying Romanian art.

The postmodernism auction raised some EUR 200,000, with a sale rate of 95 percent, while the Traditional Values auction raised some EUR 250,000. The most expensive item sold was a painting by Nicolae Grigorescu, which sold for EUR 24,000.

The Art Nouveau and Art Deco auction, which included everything from jewelry to furniture, raised some EUR 100,000. The graphic, manuscripts and rare books collections had a sale rate of 85 percent. The Magic and Esoteric Sciences auction attracted interest too, with a Masonic ceremonial sword snapped for EUR 2,800, for example.

Artmark will hold its next winter auction on December 19, wrapping up the art year.
