Georgia to restore railway communication with Abkhazia and Russia

Georgian State Minister for Reintegration Paata Zakareishvili said that Georgia was ready to restore railway communications with Abkhazia and Russia, Kommersant reports.

The railway communications have not been operating for 20 years. Restoring them would resolve the problem of refugees from Abkhazia, boost its economic development. Georgia will put more effort into economic projects of Abkhazia.

The minister noted that the government had not discussed the problem but had had consultations.

Zakareishvili talked about Abkhaz and South Ossetian passports. He proposed recognition of the documents in Georgia without the parliament’s approval.
