Ivanishvili wants Sochi Olympic Games of 2014 to succeed

Georgia should take part in the Olympic Games of Sochi hosted in 2014, as stated by Bidzina Ivanishvili, a candidate for Prime Minister and leader of the Georgian Dream coalition, News Georgia reports.

Georgia was rumoured planning a boycott of the Olympic Games after the war in August 2008. Tbilisi pointed out that material from the breakaway republic of Abkhazia was frequently imported for building infrastructure and sports facilities in Sochi.

President Mikheil Saakashvili’s United National Movement lost the Georgian parliamentary polls on October 1 to Ivanishvili’s Georgian Dream.

Georgian Dream will have 87 parliamentary seats, the United National Movement will have 63. The parliament has a total of 150 seats.
