Italian poachers arrested in Romania

Romanian police have arrested 12 Italian citizens citizens suspected of poaching. Raids at two hotels in Cernavoda revealed more than 1,000 dead birds, 7,000 gun cartridges and 20 guns. The twelve Italians, all aged between 50 and 70 years, were taken to the local police headquarters in Constanta.

The suspects were unable to produce the legal documentation necessary for hunting and there are also suggestions in the Romanian media that they were using electronic calling devices to attract their quarry, banned in many countries, allowing them to shoot thousands of birds. The police also say the hunters were in possession of more than the legal maximum of ammunition.
