They will start exploring for shale gas in Turkey already this month

Royal Dutch Shell's Turkey branch and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) are to begin drilling Turkey's first wells for shale gas exploration in the eastern province of Diyarbakir this month, officials from the Ministry of Energy said.

According to sources, Shell will be in charge of operations at the wells, and if shale gas is found, the company plans on opening over 20 wells in the area. Officials are hopeful that petroleum will also be found along with shale gas during the drilling, which will go down 3,000 meters.

Shell will initially drill two wells.
