Bulgaria's Foreign Min Backs Bokova for 2nd Term as UNESCO Chief

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin has backed the nomination of Bulgarian Irina Bokova, the current Director- General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for her second term on the post.

During a meeting between Vigenin and  Bokova on Wednesday, the two officials discussed the election campaign of the Director-General.

Minister Vigenin confirmed Bulgaria's support for the candidacy of Irina Bokova, emphasising that she had taken over the management of UNESCOat a challenging period in its history and had been able to successfully get the organisation out of the difficulties and in spite of financial constraints.

The elections will be held in October 2013.

Bulgarian Irina Bokova became Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, in September 2009.
