League of Bankers launched in Moldova

The Moldovan League of Bankers was officially launched in Chisinau on June 4, on the occasion of the Bank Worker’s Day, celebrated on 4 June in Moldova.

«Founded on 15 April by five bankers, with a work experience of over 20 years in the area, the League of Bankers is a public apolitical association, with a non-profit entity statute,» the chairman of the league, Dumitru Ursu, said in a news conference on June 4. Ursu said that the League had not only founding members, but also active ones, who were working both in Moldova and abroad, bankers who had worked at the National Bank and in other commercial banks and, presently, worked in well-known banks from the USA and Europe.

«We wish to have an association with a good reputation, with people who will truly cope with the requirements and goals set in the regulations of the Moldovan League of Bankers,» Ursu said. He also said that the organisation wished to develop a network «on Moldova’s territory, as well as outside it, if appropriate».

The League’s goal is to contribute to the future consolidation and fostering of Moldova’s banking sector, as well as «of the honour of the profession of banker in the society, which has been somehow neglected lately». Presently, over 11,000 people are working in the banking system all over Moldova and the number of the veterans of this sector reaches a few thousands.

«The League will become an open platform for debates, for formulating certain consolidated positions on different issues related to the national economy, especially to the backing sector,» Ursu said.

Dumitru Ursu has been the chairman of the Moldovan Banks Association until March 2013, an organisation, which joins as members those 14 banks of Moldova. Only private persons, having at least 5 years of experience in the banking system, will be accepted in the League of Bankers.
