Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today chaired on May 8, 2013 the meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Strategic Planning (CIPS), the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The members of the committee analysed the current implementation stage of the “Disaster and Climate Risk Management in Moldova” project.

Acting Interior Minister Dorin Recean said the project needed more funds in order to build a complex working station for meteorologists, purchase and create a regional numerical model as well as to create an integrated system to process national and international data. Funds are also necessary to complete the construction works of the Emergency Command Centre as well as to procure and put into operation the information and communications system.

Recean also said the experience Moldova had acquired in the summer of 2010, when it had been hit by floods as well as by massive snowfalls in the winter of 2012-2013, had proved that it was necessary to improve the communication and organisation capacities of the authorities responsible for liquidating the consequences of natural disasters.

Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the need to implement the project was impending, as it would improve the responsible authorities’ capacities to prepare and properly organise in order to liquidate the consequences of natural disasters.

The “Disaster and Climate Risk Management in Moldova” project is currently being implemented thanks to an agreement Moldova had signed with the International Development Association (IDA).
