Low-income budget-paid employees to benefit from pay rises in Moldova

Employees of the budgetary institutions, who receive low salaries will benefit from pay supplements of 100-170 lei, as per a decision adopted on April 17 by the Moldovan Government.

Moldovan acting Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family, Valentina Buliga said that about 100 thousand people working in the culture, medical, sports, scientific and other budgetary fields will benefit from these pay rises. The minister also said that 153 million lei was envisaged in the state budget to this end.

Previously, the Government and the Parliament decided to raise the pensions starting from April 1, 2013. This measure triggered the dissatisfaction of the International Monetary Fund and worsened the relations between the IMF and the Moldovan Government. Political analysts describe the indexation of pensions and salaries as a populist move, undertaken within the preparations for early parliamentary polls.
