Sales turnover on Moldovan fixed telephony market went 7.1% down in 2012

The sales turnover of Moldovan fixed telephony operators stood at 1.56 billion lei (97.7 million euros) in 2012, decreasing 7.1% against 2011. At the same time, the number of subscribers went 2.2% up – to 1.2 million, according to data of the ANRCETI [National Telecommunications and Informatics Regulatory Agency].

The ANRCETI report has shown that the number of subscribers increased due to 26 alternative operators working on the Moldovan market. They connected to their networks about 29.9 thousand new clients. At the same time, the subscriber basis of the national fixed telephony operator Moldtelecom decreased by 4 thousand people.

By late 2012, Moldtelecom counted about 1.12 million subscribers (93.2% out of the number), whereas the alternative operators – 82.6 thousand subscribers (6.8%).

The traffic generated to end consumers through public fixed telephony networks decreased by 8.8% and made 3.028 billion minutes.

The revenues earned by Moldtelecom from the sale of fixed telephony services decreased 7.1% in comparison with 2011 and made 1.5 billion lei. At the same time, the sales turnover of alternative operators soared 51%, up to 41.6 billion lei.

ANRCETI specialists explain this by the expansion of the subscriber basis of alternative operators, due to the connection of special packages that include at least three types of services (fixed telephony, internet and televisions), as well as to the providing of this service outside Chisinau.

In 2012, there were 27 operators working on the Moldovan fixed telephony market. The leading company is Moldtelecom, which holds a share of 97.3%. The market quota of other alternative operators (Arax-Impex, Orange Moldova, Starnet, Sun Communications) makes 2.7%.
