Advertising of tobacco products prohibited in Russia

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin has signed the Act “On protection of citizens’ health against the impact of the tobacco smoke and consequences of tobacco consumption”. Such information has been announced at the Kremlin official website.

Starting from July 1, 2013 smoking is prohibited in government institutions, higher education institutions, schools, hospitals, stadiums, restaurants, trains, and train stations, as well as within 15 meters from metro entrances. Special rooms for smoking will be arranged only at enterprises.

Tobacco advertising in the mass media and Internet will be completely forbidden.

“Electronic cigarettes” and tobacco-based chewing gums are also under ban.

Penalties for smoking at public places will amount to 1000 rubles.
