River crews in Romania will be trained and certified to European standards

Last week a project funded by the European HINT (Harmonized Inland Navigation Transport) was launched in Bucharest. The project is coordinated by the Romanian Maritime Training Centre (CERONAV).

Together with 17 partners from Romania, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine, CERONAV will participate in the development of standards for training and certification of river vessels’ crews.
This is one of the points identified by the Danube Commission and set out in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
The project’s goals are to develop a concept of the school of navigation on the Danube, to create a network of cooperation between educational institutions, establish social partnership in the field of navigation and inland-waters transport, to organize pilot projects and create jobs in this sector.
