Moldovan scientists winning European projects to get higher wages

Moldovan scientists winning European projects will have a salary rise between 700 and 4,000 euros monthly, starting this year, the chairman of the Academy of Science (ASM), Academician Gheorghe Duca, announced at a news conference on February 4.

Duca said that presently an ASM researcher has a base salary varying from 900 to 3,500 lei (50-200 euros).

Duca stressed that allocations for the ASM institutes salary will depend on the achievements recorded in the year before. As many as 50 scientists, who will have the best results, will get 1.5 - 2 fold higher wages.

At the same time, the reforms within the academy will allow the Moldovan scientists to get the PhD degree, if they defend their thesis paper at such prestigious institutions as Harvard, Oxford or Sorbonne.

In 2013, the state allotted 286 million lei /18 million euros/ for the scientific/innovation field, which represents 0.34 per cent of the GDP.
