Romania may introduce a “solidarity tax”

Romania is currently considering the possibility of introduction of a “solidarity tax” for large fuel companies. This information has been announced by the Minister of Economy Varujan Vosganian during the program at one of the television channels.

“2014 is the time during which we can discuss the cost of the license and other issues. We need to calculate the amounts Petrom gets from the growth in the fuel prices and retention of the license cost, and then we can establish a solidarity fund, which can use Petrom payments for assistance to persons, affected by price variations”, – he has noted.

The Minister has expressed his confidence in the fact that the petrochemical company will agree to discuss this situation, noting that, subject to a successful experience, such practices may be applied to other economic entities at the market.
