Annual inflation rate in 2012 stands at 4.95 percent, under BNR target

The annual inflation rate in 2012 stood at 4.95 percent, below the target of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) established last year at 5.1 percent, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In November, the annual inflation rate stood at 4.56 percent.

In December 2012, prices rose by 0.6 percent compared with November, amid 0.66 percent price increases for food products and 0.89 percent for non-food goods, while service prices went down 0.19 percent.

The monthly average inflation rate in 2012 was 0.4 percent, compared with 0.3 percent registered in 2011.

The average price increase over the past 12 months (January 2012 - December 2012) from the previous 12 months (January 2011 - December 2011) determined based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stands at 3.3 percent and that determined based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) accounts for 3.4 percent.

The National Bank of Romania's projection for the annual inflation rate is 5.1 percent at the end of 2012 and 3.5 percent in late 2013.
