Bulgaria marked day of Bulgarian cinema

On January 13, 1915, in the «Modern theatre» cinema in Sofia, the public premiere of the first Bulgarian movie «Real Bulgarian is gallant (Bulgaran e gallant)» was held.

Director and script-writer of the silent black and white movie is Vasil Gendov, who also played the leading part of Bulgaran. The movie itself was not preserved until nowadays. It is believed that it was lost during the 1940’s and only 2-3 frames remained intact. The day of its premiere-January 13 is now celebrated as the day of the Bulgarian cinema and of all people employed in the film industry.
