Moldovan medical institutions to be reorganised

The government on December 26 decided to reorganise several Moldovan public medical-sanitary institutions.

According to the decision, the National Centre for Reproductive Health and Medical Genetics will be integrated as a structural subdivision within the Public Medical Sanitary Institution Scientific Research Institute of Mother and Child Health Care. Also the Republican Clinical Hospital will be merged with the Scientific Practical Centre of Cardiovascular Surgery.

The reorganisations are meant to optimise the networks of public medical-sanitary institutions, in order to increase the access to qualitative medical services and set up an efficient management system.

Health Minister Andrei Usatii said the staff of the reorganised institutions will not be dismissed. «There are almost 800 vacant positions in the hospitals, so there will be no dismissals. I have already discussed with the employees of the institutions that will be reorganised. They will not be affected by these modifications, excepting the fact that the directors of the institutions might have to face a little discomfort,» Usatii said.

The modifications are part of the health reform. According to the authors of the draft decision, the reorganisation process will not modify the nomenclature of the medical services that are provided.
