Bulgarian shadow economy shrinks

The analysis of the «Limitation and prevention of informal economy» project shows that the Bulgarian shadow economy has gone down by 6-7% over the last two years.

The research, conducted by the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, measures the shadow economy on the basis of the compositional index, taking into account various statistical and sociological components. The official economy in Bulgaria in 2010 was 63.83% of the GDP, while in 2011 it reached 67.07%.

However, despite the shrinking of the shadow economy, Bulgaria still tops the rating of EU member states on this indicator.

According to the European Commission data, the share of the shadow economy in Bulgaria in June this year was 32%, while the average European share of the shadow economy is 15%.
