Ukraine wants to join TANAP project

Ukraine is interested in joining the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) project being developed by Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alexander Mishchenko, said that by the end of the year the Ukrainian side planned to discuss opportunities for Kiev to join the project with its Azerbaijani colleagues. It is expected it will happen at a meeting between the energy ministers of two countries, who will discuss the issue in detail.

The Ukrainian diplomat told journalists that diversification of energy imports is one of the most important priorities for his country. He emphasized that Azerbaijan possesses huge energy resources and the TANAP project will provide Europe with gas.

TANAP requires construction of a pipeline from the eastern border of Turkey to the western border of Azerbaijan for transportation of gas from the Azeri deposit «Shah Deniz» to Europe.
