Moldovans upbeat about accession to EU - poll

Most Moldovans see Moldova as an independent state and a member of the European Union in the next 20 years, according to a poll presented on October 9 by the Center of Sociological Survey and Marketing Investigations CBS/AXA.

According to the poll, almost 80 per cent of respondents want Moldova to preserve its neutrality status in the next 20 years. Most respondents said that Moldova would become a corruption-free state and the Transnistrian conflict would be solved too.

At the same time, 51 per cent of respondents want Moldova to become a state integrated in the Russia-led Eurasian project.

Only 21 per cent of respondents opted for Moldova's accession to NATO and 15 per cent want Moldova to be a component part of Romania.
