Turkish police organize new crackdown in Ankara

People protesting against death of 19-year-old Ismail Korkmaz were driven out by the police in Ankara and the Antakya (Hatay Province of Turkey) last night.

Korkmaz was injured on June 2 and died at a hospital in Eskisehir 38 days later.

The police blocked the protesters and used tear gas and water cannons after they refused to stop the demonstration. About 5,000 people gathered in Eskisehir to commemorate the man’s death.

Four protesters and a police officer were killed in protests last month.
