Close to 70% of works to rehabilitate primary road M2 Sarateni-Soroca to be fulfilled in 2013

This year the most difficult works will be fulfilled, including construction of 5 bridges, replacement of the railway bridge near Ghindesti and reconstruction of the belt road near Soroca, destroyed as a result of an earthquake, Millennium Challenge Moldova informs.

Turkish companies ONUR and SUMMA and Austrian Strabag are ready to set to the works as soon as the weather permits. The Turkish companies possesses 130 units of equipment, during the winter they have bought over 70 thousand tons of building materials and hired 120 workers of which 63 are citizens of Moldova, and the others are Turkish citizens.

In September an asphalt plant with the capacity of 280 t/h was put into operation. Strabag is going to launch its asphalt plant by the end of March. In line with the contract, ONUR and SUMMA are to repair 44.9 kilometres of the road between Sarateni and the entry to Ghindesti; Strabag AG will repair 48.1 kilometres. The rehabilitation of this road at a length of 93 is valued at $100 mln. and to be fulfilled within the Millennium Challenge Compact program, backed by the government of the USA.

The government authorized the Agency for Land Affairs and Cadastre to conclude the purchase/sale contracts with owners of lands stretching along the road reconstructed for them to be further expropriated as located in the area of public utility works. Repair works are to be completed by the end of 2014. The contract stipulates rehabilitation and adjustment of the road system, improvement and reconstruction of crossings of primary roads with secondary ones. As a result, bus stops and foot paths will be improved, the highway in 13 population places will be illuminated and secondary roads will be constructed to provide easier access to schools, kindergartens, hospitals etc. from the reconstructed highway.
