Giugiulesti International Free Port's transshipment volumes rise in the first quarter of 2013

In the first quarter of 2013 a total of 76,375 metric tons of bulk and general cargo was transshipped via Giurgiulesti International Free Port compared to 60,474 metric tons in the same period last year.

47,370 mt of the transshipped volume was grain and oil seeds, 20,265 mt mineral oil products, 8,740 mt vegetable oil and about 1,000 tons of soda ash in big bags.

In addition to bulk and general cargo a total of 508 sea containers were transshipped via Giurgiulesti International Free Port during this year’s first quarter – an almost 300% increase compared to the same period of 2012.

The goods delivered in containers to Moldova via Giurgiulesti during the first quarter of 2013 originated 26 different countries. The vast majority of the containers originated from China (62%), India (9%), Turkey (7%) and Spain (4%). Exports in sea containers via Giurgiulesti were mostly directed to the USA and China.

The shipping tariffs from major Chinese ports to Giurgiulesti averaged at about USD 1,960 per 20” container and at about USD 2,995 per 40” container during the first quarter of 2013. At the beginning of the second quarter these rates dropped to about USD 1,730 for 20” containers and USD 2,660 for 40” containers. Export tariffs from Giurgiulesti to major Chinese ports have been as low as USD 800 for 20” containers and USD 920 for 40” containers.
