Number of tourists to Romania in 2012 grew by 9.3%

According to the date of the State Statistics Institute of Romania, approximately 7.6 million tourists paid for their stay at hotels and guest houses in 2012, exceeding the 2011 results by 9.3%.

21.6% fell in foreign tourists (1.6 million people).

In 2012 the number of night stays amounted to 19 million – more than in 2011 by 6.6%. Approximately 75% of people, who used hotel services, decided to choose a hotel for their stay.

The work level of all tourist places of stay in 2012 went down by 5% – to 25.9%. Hotels showed the average result of 32.1%.

According to the data of the State Customs, approximately 7.9 million foreigners entered Romania in 2012, exceeding the 2011 result by 4.3%. The majority of them – 94.2% – were citizens of the EU countries. The total number of foreign tourists included 33.1% of Hungarians, 20.2% of Bulgarians, 9.4% of Germans, 7.3% of Italians, and 6.4% of Poles.
