Democracy in Bulgaria cannot be doubted and current threats to national security stemming from political and social crisis can be prevented by early elections, Bulgarian President Rossen Plevneliev said.

This happened on February 26, 2013 during the meeting of the National Council on National Security. According to the President, the parliament must start implementing a programme for urgent measures until the end of the mandate. The council agreed that law changes in the sphere of energy were necessary, too.

Moratorium on agreements for the purchase of territories on the Black Sea coast would also be imposed. The President said he will determine the election date soon but elections will mostly likely take place in the end of April or the beginning of May. Plevneliev also announced that the first meeting of the planned Social Council will take place on Friday in order for its structure to be defined.
