Romania’s starring role at Salon du Livre book event has EUR 450,000 price tag

It looks like being a good year for Romania at the big international book fairs, with the guest of honor spot for the country confirmed at the upcoming Salon du Livre in Paris. There are also plans for a Romanian stand at the book fairs in London (UK), Turin (Italy) and Gothenburg (Sweden).

But all this exposure for Romanian literature doesn’t come for free. Romania’s Cultural Institute (ICR) has released information on the costs of participating and adds that some of the plans are dependent on the necessary funds being raised.

Romania’s guest of honor appearance at the Paris show will include a 400 sqm exhibition space in the center of the hall, but the cost of the starring role at the Salon du Livre is EUR 450,000. These costs will be shared equally between the ICR and ReedExpo.

The ICR will provide EUR 40,000 for the Turin Book Fair, EUR 75,000 for the stand at the London event and is currently in negotiations over Romania’s space at the Gothenburg fair, with a EUR 60,000 grant quoted.

The ICR subsidiaries in the countries hosting the book fairs will be responsible for raising funds themselves to support Romanian participation at the events.
