Transport minister threats with dismissals for poor snow-handling works

Moldovan Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru has warned on December 13, 2012 the leadership of the State Road Administration that in case if roads are blocked because of the poor snow-handing work, those guilty will be severely punished and even dismissed.

According to the Ministry of Transport, over 240 units of special snow-clearing machines and as many as 372 employees of the Road Services, have been involved in snow removal operations. Special teams working on some road segments are providing afterhours support for towing heavy transport units that face travel difficulties.

“The road traffic unfolds with difficulties, because some drivers do not use winter tires now,” said Director of the State Road Administration, Vitalie Panurco.

The Ministry of Transport has recommended the heavy duty trucks to avoid trips now and has urged the local management bodies to actively participate in snow clearing operations.

The head of the Operative Service of the State Road Administration, Dmitry Capatina, told Infotag that the “situation on the Moldovan roads is back to normal.”
