Massive earthquake in Iran on the border with Azerbaijan and Armenia

A magnitude 6.5-7 earthquake took place today, November 7, at 09:56 local time (06:26 GMT). Its epicenter was located in the Iranian city Varzagan, 83 km from the town of Kapan (Armenia) and 262 km of Yerevan.

Day.az reported that magnitude3 earthquake was felt in the border regions of Azerbaijan: Lankaran, Nakhchivan, Ordubad.

According to the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, hypocenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers, while its magnitude reached 5.6.

Day.az with reference to FARS agency added that 30 people suffered as the result of the earthquake. According to the agency, the wounded were taken to the city hospital. Most of the victims are school children.
