National Anti-corruption Centre starts working in Moldova

Starting October 1 the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCCEC) is renamed to the National Anti-corruption Centre /CNA/. The law on the reorganization of the CCCEC entered into force on October 1.

The main task of the reformed institution will be to fight corruption and money laundering. The anti-corruption centre will be an autonomous institution subordinated to the parliament.

On 26 September, the parliamentary commission for rules and immunity selected the former CCCEC head, Viorel Chetraru, out of 18 candidates for the post of CNA director. The deputies shall consider Chetraru's candidacy within a few weeks.
