Moldovan president met Romanian foreign minister

Moldovan President Nicolae on September 13 met Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, the presidency's press service has reported. 

Timofti highly appreciated the fraternal relations between Moldova and Romania. He said that regardless of the political situation in the neighbouring state, Romania is an example for Moldova on its European path.

Nicolae Timofti informed Titus Corlatean about the attempts of certain local political groups to block the maintenance and development of relations that Moldova established with Romania and other European states. Timofti specified that the Moldovan authorities would prevent the escalation of the political situation.

Titus Corlatean said that the Romanian political establishment shares the position of support for Moldova s European integration, regardless of the alternation of the Romanian authorities. He welcomed the establishment of political stability in Moldova, which in his opinion, ensures the climate needed to promote European reforms. He recalled that European officials praised Moldova as leader of the Eastern Partnership.

Titus Corlatean assured that the Moldovan-Romanian bilateral projects, including the interconnection of power lines the and the construction of the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni, are a priority for the Romanian government.

«We understand that these and many other projects are vital for Moldova s economic security,» the official said.

At the end of the meeting, Nicolae Timofti and Titus Corlatean exchanged views on the initiative to be celebrated the Our Language holiday on both banks of the Prut river, starting next year. Both officials spoke about several Moldovan-Romanian humanitarian projects that are under way.
