Constructions in ski resort Bansko stopped until March 2014

Bansko's mayor Georgi Ikonomov temporarily prohibited constructions in Bulgaria's most popular ski resort Bansko, in order to ensure the best possible holiday for the winter visitors, Standart daily reports.

The order is valid for the period until March 31, 2014. The aim is to ensure public order and security in the resort for the maximum peace of the residents and tourists alike.

The mayor's ban however does not apply to works that are commissioned by the municipality of Bansko.

The Oresharski government's support of the construction of a second ski lift in the winter in the Pirin mountain has recently caused public disapproval as environmentalists have argued that Bansko is already overdeveloped, which is harming the nearby national park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
