Moldovan travel agency to set tax promoting tourism

The Travel Agency is to set a tax for promoting tourism. The tax will be included in the cost of holiday package and will be paid from the commission of travel agencies.

The promotion tax will represent a public-private partnership, within which the state along with the citizens will participate in developing tourism by creating a better image of the country on the international stage.

The tax will be 10-30 lei, depending on the tourist destination and will not be applied to private people crossing Moldova’s border. The money will be managed by the Tourism Information and Promotion Bureau - a state public institution subordinated to the Travel Agency.

The raised money will be used for Moldova’s annual participation in ten international exhibitions of tourism, publishing advertising materials, contracting advertising spaces on the Discovery, CNN, Euronews channels etc.
