Bucharest’s Airport nominated for international awards, but loses out to Athens for prize

Bucharest’s Henri Coanda Airport in Otopeni has been nominated for the prestigious Routes Europe Awards, which recognize excellence in services according to criteria set by airlines. Henri Coanda airport was among the nominees in the 4 – 20 million passengers group last year, along with the airports in Dublin, Athens, Istanbul, Prague and Marseille.

The Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens ran out as group winner and Munich Airport was named the overall winner and thus goes on to the World Routes Airport Marketing Awards in Las Vegas, October 5 – 8 this year. Munich, European winner, will compete against the likes of San Diego International Airport and Changi Airport Group, overall winners of the Americas and Asia heats respectively, earlier in 2013, according to industry news site Travel Daily News.

The awards gala was held last night (May 14) in Terminal 1 of Budapest airport. Over 1,000 civil aviation professionals attended the event in which the best European airports were awarded.
