New e-technology to speed up Moldovan customs control for biometric passport owners

The new eGate system will offer owners of biometric passports the opportunity to cross the border in only 15 seconds. The modern technology allows the entrance on the Moldovan territory without the direct participation of the Border Police officers.

According to the Information Technologies and Communication Ministry, the eGate system is a technological solution that perform an automatic checkout of the Moldovan citizens' biometric passports. The equipment simplifies the passport’s checkout procedure, whereas passports owners will spend only 15 seconds in the border control area.

The eGate technology is currently used by the Chisinau International Airport. A number of 20 people per day cross the border using the new system.

All the Moldovan citizens, who are over 18 and own biometric passports, may use the eGate system when arriving to Moldova.

The new technology had been already implemented by the Information Technologies and Communication Ministry, the Interior Ministry’s Border Police as well as by the Chisinau International Airport.
