Turkey has launched the first domestic smartphone Turkcell T40, Turkish Sabah newspaper reported on Dec.16.

The domestic smartphones will be offered for sale in early 2014, according to the newspaper.

The prices of Turkcell T40 smartphone hasn't been announced yet, the newspaper said.
Earlier, the head of Turkey's Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) Acarer said that Turkey is interested in organization of a joint mobile phone production with Japan.

Currently, Turkey has created all conditions for attracting foreign investments and given the large demand for mobile phones in the country, the Japanese firms could take advantage of it, according to Acarer.

Turkey annually imports around 17.5 million mobile phones, Acarer said.

"Smartphones account for 60 percent of the mobile phones imported to the country," Acarer said.
