Georgia hesitates about attending Olympic Games hosted by Russia

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said that the government had not decided whether to participate in the Sochi Olympic Games of 2014 or not, RIA Novosti reports.

President of the Georgian National Olympic Committee Leri Khabelov said that the decision had been made. He reminded that Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili had said in January about Georgia’s taking part in the games. A session will be held on May 2 where representatives of federations will express their views on the Olympic Games.

Khabelov’s deputy Elgudzh Berishvili said he will visit Sochi.

President Mikheil Saakashvili’s United National Movement called for a boycott of the Olympic Games in Sochi. The movement became oppositionist after the parliamentary polls of October. The new government is positive towards the Olympic Games.
