Seismological stations to be formed around Armenian nuclear power plant

Old seismological stations around the Armenian nuclear power plant will be replaced with new ones. They will send electronic information to the Crisis Center of the Ministry for Emergencies, Panorama.am cites Grachya Petrosyan, head of the National Survey for Seismological Protection.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 points on Richter scale happened 15km north of Armavir two weeks ago. Earthquakes were registered with a magnitude of 2-3 points in Metsamor.

The nuclear power plant was launched in 1980 and shut down in March 1989, after the Spitak Earthquake of December 1988. 25,000 people died. The power plant was back on in November 1995 to fulfill demands for electricity, despite international protests.
