Turkish businessmen caught with 1.3 tons of gold

A plane of Turkmen Airlines was detained at the Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul on February 22. It had 1.3 tons of gold for shipment to Ashkhabad.

Turkish construction company Polimex was the owner of the shipment. It tried to ship gold covered as plumbing under false document.

The company reported on February 24 that the gold was meant for purchases of construction materials in countries where cash transfers were unavailable.

Polimex has been operating in Turkmenistan since 1995 and has special benefits granted by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
