Sturua becomes director of Rustaveli Theater

Robert Sturua (Georgia) has been appointed as the head of the Tbilisi Theater of Shota Rustaveli by the Georgian Culture Ministry, Maestro TV reports.

Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili ordered the Tbilisi silk-sewing factory to be turned into the theater. “Maria Callas” by Terrence McNally (USA) will be the first play to be staged for the opening of the theater in late January 2013.

Sturua was fired from the theater in August 2011 for criticizing President Mikheil Saakashvili. He worked as the Chief Director of the Et Cetera Theater in Moscow since January 2012 under supervision of Alexander Kalyagin.
