Georgian seafarers may get back their right to work at European vessels

EU member states will probably once again recognize certificates of competency, issued in Georgia. This information has been announced by the Maritime Transport Agency.

“On November 22, 2010 EU discontinued recognition of certificates, confirming the competency of Georgian seafarers. As a result of this decision many Georgian seafarers became unemployed. For the last twelve months Georgian Maritime Transport Agency has been actively working on this issue, and two European Maritime Safety Agency inspectors came to Georgia for monitoring on October 16 – Antonio Javier Rodriguez and Pasca Giorgeva. They have inspected both the Maritime Transport Agency and the maritime training institutions. The successful passing of the audit will allow EU member states to once again recognize certificates, issued in Georgia, opening the Georgian seafarers’ employment opportunities at European vessels”, – the statement informs.
