451 freight vessels have been processed at Batumi port during 8 months

During the period of 8 months of 2012 Batumi sea trade port (BSP) has processed 451 vessels, www.portnews.ru reports referring to the port’s administration.

For August 2012 the port’s dry cargo turnover comprised 207,000 tons of dry cargo which is the highest volume in the port’s history.

Maximum growth indices were demonstrated by BSP’s main cargo types: raw sugar (+91%) and ammonium nitrate (+58%). Packaged freight has gone up, too (+58%).

For January-July 2012 dry cargo transhipment through Batumi sea port amounted to 784.6 thousand tons, which is 5.69% lower than the indices for the same period last year.

The amount of dry cargo shipment expected for this year is 1,500 thousand tons which is the highest forecast index for the whole of port’s history.

In dry cargo transhipment the leading cargo types are, as earlier, raw sugar (32.71%) and ammonium nitrate (18.20%). Ore bulk freight has substantially soared as well.

In 2011 BSP’s freight turnover comprised 1,517.8 thousand tons.

Batumi sea port is located in the South-Eastern part of the Black Sea. The port’s territory is 22.2 ha, it includes 11 berths. The total area of open storage space is 15,656 m2. 861 people work in port.

The port has oil terminal (berths Nos.1,2&3 and single buoy mooring, container terminal (berths Nos.4&5), berth complex for serving ferries, freight terminal for processing dry cargo (berths Nos.6,7,8&9) and passenger terminal (berths Nos.10&11).
